International Circulation: As president of this years ASH could you outline what are the key sessions you are most looking forward to?
<International Circulation>: As president of this years ASH could you outline what are the key sessions you are most looking forward to?
Professor Henry Black: We are doing some things which have been successful in the past, For the first day of the meeting we have a full day of hypertension highlights, these are invited talks on topics which we thought were important. I am encouraged that for a 600 seat auditorium all seats have been filled to full capacity. Tomorrow in the early part of the day we are going to have a primary care track session where we devote time to issues which we think are of interest to primary care physicians. This has been quite successful in the past and we hope it will continue to be so. The president’s welcome and the keynote speech will begin at noon and one o’clock respectively and myself and Dr Eugene Braunwald who is widely recognized as the most prominent cardiologist in the United States and possibly the world is going to review the history of hypertension and outline what the future holds. I am going to talk about the National High Blood Pressure Education Program which began in 1972 and ended earlier this decade and we feel that ASH is filling that void. We believe this is a natural evolution since ASH is 25 years old and that program latest for about 30 years and had a lot to do with the joint national committee reports and many other innovations. We are also going to talk a lot about the salt initiative, we will focus a lot on meet the expert sessions where we select certain experts and talk in very small groups where questions will be raised and answered and we will also have our award sessions so I think it will be a very exciting meeting and our registration figures is already much higher than it has ever been.
